This is one of the original brevet routes we started using in 2015 that remains largely unchanged.
The route has finalized for 2026. The start/finish is located at Aaron's, 1298 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC 28806.
Due to Hurricane Helene road construction, the Bend of Ivy bridge at Gravel Pit Rd is still out.
Therefore, we will ride 25/70 from mile 16 to mile 19. This a 4-lane that we wouldn't typically ride on. However, we have used it on this route since Hurricane Helene and it has proven to be low traffic during the early hours.
Mile 101 and 140 - there is a natural spring coming directly out of the side of the mountain on the climb up to the Appalachian Trail crossing. If it's hot, don't miss it. We drink this water. This is a great opportunity to get refreshed.
Dinner - We recommended dinner at Mid City Grill in Johnson City. They have great options for most diets including vegans. The food is very good.
24 hour service is available at mile 228 in Mars Hill. If in need of services late night on the return, this will be your best and first service option after the descent into North Carolina.
